found this forum when exploring the *failed* iso disc, so if someone is reading this with the same type of problems, try here.

EDIT: sorry guys, accidentally gave you the search url, instead of home so it's sorted now.
btw, it seems some of the linux guys aren't as kind at talking to newbies there so found some things a little :blink :blink but i found an md5 checksum tool which i'll play with tonight.

    Did you find an answer?

The link returned: "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

I got the same error when I followed the link too. However, I did a quick search of the Ubuntu forums and found a couple of different threads dealing with failed .iso image burns. It seems at least some of them were good files corrupted by the burn process so slowing down the burn rate or cleaning the drive might just might be legit fixes for this problem in Ubuntu.

    getting there,eventually!
just thought id post these links as they're quite useful if someone is having the same problems.

HERE is a tutorial on burning .iso images.

HERE is a utility used to specifically burn .iso,as people have reported problems with nero and roxio. it's called burncdcc.

and HERE is the thread that helped me out.

    happy linux-ing all!

Interesting. I've never really had a specific problem with nero burning .iso images. I've had problems burning Mandrake .iso images on nero, but never a problem burning Debian or Slackware .iso images on nero. The software I like the best for burning cdrom's though is k3b. I've never burnt a coaster with it.

tried it out, thought it was pretty good so i've installed it on my other pc, but i read earlier that you had trouble with your wireless?

i have a d-link wireless usb device, but the drivers only seem to be used in windows nt,me, xp etc. and i really cant be bothered moving stuff around to accomodate. any tips?

    Moominboy,

Glad you sorted the Ubuntu disc out. Normally is Nero you select File....Open....then select the path where the Ubuntu iso was downloaded to.
As for your hardware it is well worth the learning curve. I am currently hooked on it! :baby

ok boyce, im sure you're going to slag me off for this but at the moment i cant get my head around ubuntu! :baby :baby

i bought a "linux in easy steps" book the other day and the author uses mandrake which seems a much easier way to take my first steps into linux so im going to burn the iso's tonight and re-install over ubuntu.

it's not just the command driven way ubuntu works that confused me but the way everything was laid out and ran together that did it!

but fear not, im going to beast myself on mandrake over the weekend and hopefully, re-install ubuntu on monday with a fresh head.

    keep you posted whatever. :biggrin

    moomin,

Yes, when you are normally using Windows as i am, like you have found it a "learning curve".
I think it is a cyrve worth learning. :biggrin
Let us how know how you find Mandrake- it looks good too!

moominboy, there's no right or wrong way to approach learning Linux. Use whatever distro you feel comfortable with. Ubuntu is the current *hot* distro, but you'll find Linux users worldwide who will swear by whatever distro they're in love with and defend it to the death. Go for it. :)

Well, if you're having problems with Ubuntu then I'd recommend Debian, Gentoo, or maybe Linux from Scratch....
