ubuntu: can't log in

    I don't get it. Why did you download amsn onto your desktop? apt-get installs from the network not from your hard disk or your desktop. If you manually download .deb packages from the Ubuntu repositories you have to use dpkg to install them. Also, how are you trying to install extensions and themes in Firefox?

    Post what is in the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

    Also, check to see if you have javascript enabled in Firefox. If that's disabled you could very well have problems logging into any site.

    the website said download it so i did and it worked so i didnt question why i did it that way. have re-installed ubuntu again and this time with amsn i clicked download and install and it worked. so what i did didnt do what i thought it did lol

    i have a guide that i printed off at work that list loads of plugins for the browser so im typing them in and they're downloading and installing.

    have checked and under preferences it says java and javascript is enabled.

    i got a drop down menu with valid users & you were on it.

    ive only used grim this year as ive used a different name since 2001, but grim is actually my nick name since about 1998 :)
