    it changes the MAC address to that of the next device (hop) on its route to the destination everytime it goes through a device (switch or router). when it arrives at the destination the router or switch looks up its mac/cam table and maps the ip addy to a mac addy. the mac addy is then tied to a port. the frame is then delivered to the destination.

    have a look at the osi model to get a better picture of how data transfers, :)
