that's actually true, on top gear when clarkson reviewed it he said you had to be going something like 80mph to get enough downward force on the rear tyres to get enough grip :confused3

oh and the fact it keeps catching fire :ohmy

All you guys can have the sports cars.

I'd like one of these again. Mine didn't have the vinyl top or the 350, and was a beautiful metal flake gold. When I got it, it had a 325 hp 396 in it with a 4 speed tranny. I took that out and put a self-built 327 with very conservative estimate of 425 hp with a 400 TurboHydro tranny behind it in place of the 396. It would easily turn 8000 rpm, and in 1st gear would reach 7500 rpm from 3000 rpm in less than 2 secs because it would immediately smoke the tires. It was punch the gas and shift to 2nd gear shift immediately to keep from over-revving the engine. I had 11" wide tires on the rear end, and the entire car sat up about 3" higher than stock due to the lighter weight of the small block engine.

Fun to drive? Oh, it was a kick. I could drive it down the street sideways in first gear while burning the tires for half a city block by working the throttle. Oh, and the mph to rpm ratio was 1:100, so that 30 mph was 3000 rpm in 1st gear. It was most definitely a rush to drive.

So, you guys can have your sports cars. I'll take one of the old hot rods that is a real handful to control because of the power to weight ratio makes it so squirrelly.

go double check you stats on that one gbl, when the guys at topgear tested they bashed it because it was an american car. nevermind the fact that it placed in the top 10 on their list and that wasn't even the z06 model. the z06 model was the 2nd fastest production car around the nuerburg ring. the only car that out lapped it on the ring was a 200+k porche. no bad for ancient pushrod engine technology.

I am not saying that because I saw it on some TV program or read it, I have driven one, not that exact model is 1993 corvette that my mates dad still has.

He let me take it around donnigton when he was a touring car driver, fast as hell it was a looked really good but the back end was all over the place, I am used to rear wheel drive cars being twitchy (had 3) but that was unbelievable.

I would still have one if given one. :D

heh, the 93 model corvettes are not my favorite. they can get a bit sloppy, just like my bird can when you nail it especially coming out of the twisties. thats what happens when a stock motor puts out 325 ft pounds of torque at about 2500 rpm. that power is always there on demand. good stuff i tell you, good stuff.

My friend had the R32 before, what a beast. On a quarter mile those twin turbo's definitely kick in big time.
