I watched this earlier and anyone planning to see it will, I think, be pleasantly surprised. It hasn't had a theatrical release over here and I know it usually indicates a film is pants when it gets a theatrical release in the US, then goes straight-to-DVD everywhere else - but that really isn't the case with this.

Admittedly, I loved the novella (one of the first Stephen King stories I ever read way back in the early 80s) but, TBH, I was expecting the film to be ****e. However, despite some pretty ropy acting at times (what is it about King adaptations that seemingly every film has at least one terrible performance in it?) the film was excellent. The CGI wasn't too bad - there's one scene near the end that is just awesome - and the ending is just about as bleak as it's possible to get in mainstream cinema. Also, the director used one of my favourite pieces of music (Host of Seraphim, by Dead Can Dance) over the ending, and it fits perfectly.

All in all, well worth getting the import DVD - if only for the stunning black & white version included on the second disc (the director originally wanted the film released in B&W but the studios wouldn't have it)

Is this the short(ish) story that was the first one in the Skeleton Crew collection? If so, I had no idea a film had been made of it. The story was ace, I read that in my early teens and loved it. It is the one with the mist enveloping the town and spreading a bit of mayhem with all sorts of creatures running around, isn't it?

Sweet. I just looked it up on IMDB, it got 7.5 out of 10, which is pretty good going. I'll try and grab a copy of that. The story was ace

Last great film I saw was Planet Terror, that was amazing, well funny, well gory and incredibly clever in terms of production

Is this similiar to the film "THE FOG

Where a mysterious fog decends on a small fishing town, and ghost, zombies appear and start stabbing and cutting people up?:blink

A very similar premise, yes old chap. A mist (so as not to be confused with The Fog, ensuring they have different weather systems in places means a differnet story. Watch out for the sequel, The Low Flying Cloud) descends upon a town and all manner of weird creatures start bothering the locals while a load of them take refuge in a supermarket. The book was very good though, I must admit, a great deal of tension and suspense.

I also watched the mist, I found it to be a cool movie. I remember thinking that the Thomas Jane is the guy from the Punisher.

    The ending was definitly something.

Speaking of the Punisher, did anyone like that movie. I thought it was pretty good, simple, but good nonetheless, as it got a right panning, didn't it?

The one with John Travolta in it was good, but the one with Dolph Lundgren sucked.

He was hard though and didn't need any powers.

I've been wanting to see the mist too. I glad you gave it the thumbs up Zeb. I am really looking forward to it now. :) I loved the fog so I am hoping this one will be just as good.
