    Do you mean volume licence? If so you still need to activate the OS.

    Thanks for the quick replies. Just one more question, what is the meaning of "Microsoft software licensed for evaluation purposes". Nothing important, just wondering, if anyone can explain.

    I haven't looked in to this too deeply yet, but I think it means that using it to test configurations etc and to learn is OK. Using it as a part of your home/business in a day-to-day sense isn't.
    I did see one part where it says you're not allowed to back up data on an evaluation version, so that gives you a good rule of thumb to work from.

    Yes, the technet is for evaluation purposes, however, the keys don't time-out like true evaluation keys. So you can keep you labs up and running for as long as needed.

    One point which hasn't been made here is that the keys are valid only when you have a valid technet subscription, ie if you stop your subscription you cant continue to use the software legally.
