Switch configuration

    Hi Can anyone help

    there are 2 ways an old way and a new way of configuring vlans on a switch
    does anyone know what thay are ?

    if i have a cisco 3640 router connect at f0/0 going to a switch of 2900 (l2) f0/4
    the switch has vlans 1,2 & 3 configured on f0/1 f0/2 and f/03

    what would be the answer if it is on a layer 3 switch 3500

    any help would be very much obliged :D
