I never seem to find any motivation unless I have something set in stone.. so I think I might just book this exam for end of aug?

When people say it's hard.. how hard do they mean? :P:rolleyes:

Do it mate, I'm the same, unless an exam is booked I won't focus 100%.

When we say hard, its more that you have to know such a broad range of subjects for this one mate. DNS, DHCP, IPSec, VPNs, WINS all have to be known in intricate detail. I can normally pass an exam from just studying but this one is deffo an exam where you need to have had hands on experience in addition to your studies to pass IMHO. I've failed it once and am resitting next Thursday. I'm a lot more conident this time around tho as I've studied on and off for 4-5 months just on 291.

Ah dont worry, we'll all do fine. :biggrin

It's not really 'hard', it's just the same with any cert, just learn it.

Thats a very bland way of looking at it, but it all boils down to just learning it.

An example of when you'd use replmon is lets say I have James.com, which has two Domain Controllers jay1 and jay2. Jay 1 and Jay 2 are active directory integrated meaning basically they have AD and DNS on them. If I wanted to check that James.com was replicated on both Jay1 and Jay2, I'd log onto Jay1 and use replmon, to check Jay2 was the same as Jay1 i.e. that they both were shown as DC's of James.com

This question I know going to be

Reservations I don't understand why would you use them then a Static address from Exclusion pool.

I understand reservation that it uses the mac address of client or print so client get the same IP address cos the mac address / physical address doesn't change.

Why not use an IP from exclusion pool yes client will ask on 4th day then the 8th day as it static on client it will not change.

    What have I missed!

    Thanks

    Hiya Ence,
Easy one this. The difference between configuring a static IP address and a reserved IP address is that if any peramters are modifed on the DHCP server (changes in scopes etc), a reserved IP addressed client will pick up these changes when it reuqests a renewal for its lease, as you say, on the 4th day, 8th etc.

If that client had a statically configured IP address, you'd have to manually apply any changes to the client/printer/what ever.

You are taking in most of the info mate, ask another one :D

    I've done..

    TCP/IP Configuration - 100% done
    Managing DHCP - 100% done
    Managing DNS - 85% done
    Remote Access - 100% done
Routing - 60% done (RIP and OSPF make my life easier)

2 more sections to go + a Cisco Subnetting class.

Very draining exam this, if anyone needs some help with any of those topics ^ just say, more than happy to help :biggrin (mainly because I know how frustrating some of it can be).

How is everyone else finding 70-291?
