OK, my idea is to use my PC to do the following

    Windows 7 X64
    Surf / Email / Gaming / VM

I want to get my MCSA finished, already done the 270 and 290 exams, however im guessing i need to build a vm lab for the remaining exams

My current PC is the following

    E8500
    8GB
    P5Q-Deluxe

I need to replace my aging hdd's as they are 250gb samsungs, a few years old in raid 0, but slower then a single modern drive.

I also have but not yet used, i7-920 cpu, motherboard and 12gb

Do I build the i7 system, add a 80GB SSD for Windows 7 and buy vmware workstation and 4x 320gb samsung F4's and use the motherboard for raid 10 or keep the E8500 system, add the SSD to that and with the I7, install 2008 R2 on a single sata disk, and add the extra 4 drives, raid 10 and use it as my hyper-v platform?

    Suggestion please

    Thanks

    Andy

USe the i7 for the lab setup and use the e8500 setup for gaming.

I have the e8400 but I clocked it to 4GHz I use it for my VM setup and gaming.

    Hi GBL,

thanks for the suggestion, however it looks like i cant afford the additional parts for the 2nd machine

    so how about this

    I7 920
    Mobo
    12gb
    4870 1gb
    60gb ssd / windows 7 64bit
    vmware ws
    new case
4x320gb raid 10 and put the VMs on this? or should i look to go larger, as it will have things such as sbs 2011, exchange 2010 etc..

Then I just end up with a spare case, cpu, ram, mobo

    thanks
