Worth a shot or even sfc /scannow in the run box.

sfc /scannow just ran, didn't show anything.

I am lost to why the drive reads the window disk and nothing else

I just don't want to do a wipe and reinstall then find I can't install the mobo drivers etc but I may have to risk it.

Did you update to SP3 yet? I know that SP3 fixed numerous problems I had with XP SP2 that I couldn't fix before. Unless you already have it installed.

Auto play is on but drive still not reading anything but the windows disc, thanks for the link.

I had sp3 installed I actually rolled back half an hour ago to see if it resolved it.

My drive is set to region 2, could this have anything to do with it?

cheers for your help everyone, Is it me or does everyone think it's a setting? or does anyone think the drive is knackered. I must go to bed I am at work in 5 hours.

doubt it region codes are only there to stop people from using DVD films bought from another country like USA region 1. although you can get DVDGenie or DVDShrink to remove the region. It doesn't stop the CD\DVD from autorunning!

Just wondering GBL. These Disc are they the originals or DVD-R/+R media?

Alright mate, have you been through all the basics such as swapping SATA cables, trying another spare drive, trying another SATA port on your mobo etc

The disks are originals, I went back to sp2 got loads of updates, I put in a stone roses cd and it played it through real player but wouldn't through media player.

I am thinking I have a firewall issue, although I have checked the settings. I might delete my firewall (NOD32) and see if that resolves the issue also will try reinstalling the disc that came with it although that only contains nero and the lightscribe software.

I am going to try a cleaner on the heads aswell, if this fails, I'll try more cables if they fail then I am going to run a virus scab from trend micro NOD32 isn't picking up anything. If that fails I'll try a reinstall if all of that fails then maybe the drive is faulty.
