Sounds like a BIOS upgrade may be in order. Check the manufacturer's website for more info. It may be that the board has the capabilites for the feature, but thier just not installed yet.

Probably wrong, but some more learned bods will no doubt clarify soon :)

As far as I understand it, the BIOS doesn't detect an IDE hdd connected to the fasttrack controller because you don't have an IDE hdd, therefore it doesn't install the BIOS for this.

Take note the next time you boot as it should do the same for the SATA controllers, but it probably flashes past too quickly.

Um, guys, thats not an error message, its just saying no drives attached to the controller!

the P4C800-E has two SATA controllers, the one included as part of the Intel ICH5 southbridge, as well as the Fastrak controller to add some more raid support as well as two extra ports (for a total of 4 SATA ports)

generally you dont use all 4 SATA ports, and u should really be using the ones on the ICH5 unless u have a need for the RAID

chances are your in port 0, and the fastrak is port 2 and 3

    not a problem at all

for the record I use the P4C800-E Deluxe myself :)

wow thanks for the quick response guys.

so if I change the SATA drive to run off the other controller, i should lose the message on bootup?
its not a problem, just adds more time to start the pc

btw the motherboard is spot on :)

edit: just had a look, the sata drive is plugged into SATA 1 controller

it wont save u an ounce on boot time
as it will still have to scan with that controller for your drive, and driver support within windows is a bit more flakey than with the onboard ICH5 controller :)
it will take just as much time for the controller to boot, it will just then say 'oo we found a disk' rather than 'oo we didnt find a disk'
