    Hi all

I've finnaly saved up enough to begin my MCSE :D , and I'm just wondering if anyone's got any tips or comments as to what I plan to take.

The exams I'm thinking about are:

    Core

    70-290
    70-291
    70-293
    70-294

    core client OS

    70-270 (XP)

    Core Design

    70-297 (security)

    Elective

    70-228 (SQL)

    What do you lot think?

Edit: BTW, I am doing this self-study, so you lot get prepared for some question answering!! lol

The only thing I'd say is stick with it, the Self Study route can be tough to keep motivated on. Shout out if you need help. Where do you plan to start?

Hi guy's, thanks for the reply's. Thanks Pheonix, good idea, have you started yet? Just wondering how far in are ya, and how long's it taken?

I'm trying to set myself a time limit of about 8 months max, and I'm of work for the next month or so I'm gonna hit it hard and get as far in as I can whilst I've got the time to devote all my time to studyin[IMG].

As far as starting, the kit I got for core is this
    http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735619530/ref=pd_bxgy_text_2/702-1017092-8774435

so when It gets here, I'll start on the 290 and work my way from there.

Only problem is I've got to travel 180 Km to the nearest testing center when I'm ready.[IMG]

Edit: Sorry guy's, wrong link, Do'h![IMG]

I started on 294, could of probably passed it weeks ago but just havnt got round to booking the test and am missing a vital payment from the UK that would give me the means to pay for this crap lol :)
so when i get the money ill do 294, havnt worked out what i will move onto next, probably one of the other core 4s

    Hi punkboy101,
Have you consider to take 70-298 as your core design exam ? This is probably easier than the 297. By passing this exam, you earn credit as one of the core exams for the MCSE : Security specialisation.

    hey!
i'm also following the same path.
    but i gave the 70-270 1st n now i'm studying for the 290.
i'm using the Sybex Study Guide. n i'm goin to give MS Exchange
    instead of MS SQL.
    Best Luck

    Hi Guys,

I too have recently embarked on the Win2003 Server MCSE route and I have just been reading through this thread.

I was just wondering how everybody was getting on and what books seem to be the best buys. I've seen the MS official curriculum mentioned and also Sybex but wondered whether one is deemed more favourable than the other ?

I think some of my xmas cash will be spent on some learning materials !!

Any advice from those well down the track would be most welcome.

    Many Thanks

    Steve
