?

Do you create an SPF record for yourself, or your clients?

After spending some time sorting a new client out with their dire mess of spam, I am surprised how many domains do not have an SPF record created as it provides another layer of defense.

On this basis, I thought I would ask the question here!

    Thanks for taking part!

Created one the other day, it was a friggin nightmare.

The client had there emails hosted by Company A, DNS hosted by Company B and there Website hosted by Company C.

Yes, Craigie went a little more grey that day and lost some more hair :D

Haha, mate, I had a chat with them and told em they will get ongoing problems until they consolidate everything.

Fingers crossed it will be an Exchange environment, in our hosted centre :D

Hmmn, not sure as I contracted in web people when I had the business.

Haven't bothered  for my domains on the VPS (mainly family/friends) but I suppose I should

    Only for some domains.

I’ve always found reverse DNS and having a secure mail server to be enough though.

Just migrated the whole lot over to GApps today mate.
Small business, can't afford to replace the worn out server this year...

No mate, it was stepped (or rather ground) down.

Fair play the Google migration tool works well and I know the Postini service is very accurate too.

So you have 26 PCs with no domain? Is there any file\printer sharing being used?

How much £££ per mailbox btw?

I usually use SPF 50 as I have quite fair skin... :ohmy In all seriousness, I have not heard of this before - I wiki'd it and sort of got the jist of it. Why are you all implementing it - to stop all of the spam coming in or to dissuade spammers from sending spam while spoofing your domain name (or both)? If I am missing the point of this, please set me straight as I was surprised to be the only one to have taken the third option in the poll (the only thicko in this place it seems... :blink ).

On another note, I hate Yahoo, we had a server with rDNS and SPF and yahoo where still chucking it into there spam folder(Outlook/Hotmail/Gmail didn't do this) so we had to switch on DomainKeys and DKIM just to get them to play ball grrrrrrrr

    Spam score was 0.2
    Mxtoolbox showed all green
    verifier.port25.com pass
litmus 18 out of 19 clients passed yahoo was the failure
