Reall?! I don't have anything on their now bubut, I use products like a youtube to mp3 converter.

    I download it from CNET

How is your computer going without software? Considering what you use your rig for.

As long as you're careful what and where you download from you're going to be fine.

I haven't had a virus infection (touch wood) in years, if I doubt the authenticity of a file I download it on my management rig (I have a management rig and a gaming rig).

Why tie up a high performance gaming rig with AV software or anything else that will slow it down?

I see, well unlike you i don't have money for PCs. If only i could use Cities Skylines in game cash in my life.......

The PC i have i use for everything, its almost my family's PCs. We have many laptops, but sometimes their practicality is not convenient...

I was thinking of going for Bull Guard, but it occurred to me i am sensible when downloading files, i don't click the "you can win 500 grand with this software" links. My family tend to use it for word processing - using a desk,.keyboard in fine position and a straight back on a chair.

But am i tying up my PC like this?

I use windows defender, and im careful were i get my stuff from. If i think that my laptop is running slow after a scan, ill use panda online lice scan, for free.

As for Cnet, I avoid that as i have downloaded stuff in the past and got infected. So just be careful. Windows defender does a decent enough job, but everyone will have their own opinion etc

I use Avira. It's a bit annoying though as there is a splash screen sometimes but I can live with it :)

    I'm quite careful generally anyway.

Personally I don't use any on my own computers and never have, I'm always careful what I click or download and usually use a vm to tryout a download as to not 'bog down' my actual working system.

A shared machine would be a good idea to install something and have used avg and Sophos in the past.

ESET here. Not sure why just downloading a file is the only virus risk mentioned above :)

    Cool,

I use CNet for all the popular download's like IMGBURN some of the software they host is pathetic and looks shoddy from the look. I stay away from any other page apart from the one with the best votes and most downloads.

I am thinking of using Avast, but there is always too much going on i hate it!

We used to use Sophos at our place a few years ago, however we found that it slowed the machines down. Moved over to Panda (the speed increase of the PC's were noticeable, now SCEP - very light weight (we use this with SCCM) :)

That's probably something to note! We have replacing to many hard drives with SSD. But then again there are a few factors we have to consider before blaming Sophos lol
