I used to have Mavis Beacon when I had my first PC 10 years ago and could do 120 words per second, I think its my age or something.

Can you choose to make it a permanent version after the evaluation period?

I think you would have to go out and buy the retail version, as the licence number is tied to the evaluation version.

Oh well I will just buy the full retail version.

Another two questions I have is: if I buy an external hard driver to back up my data, do I have to put an OS an the eternal Hard drive? (will be XP home)

and Will the data migrate ok to windows pro? (as I am gonna wipe my hard disk and do a full installation)

No you won't I assume the external hard drive would plug into your USB port?

If so the windows system will see the external drive as another drive and you'll be able to access your data.

No; what you would do is wipe your drive and reinstall it from scratch. It's not designed to be used as a full version.

Think I will go with my plan on backing stuff up to an external Hard disk, wiping the PC and installing a full retail version of XP pro, then putting my data back on.

Thats a shame mate, but what can you do.

It'll be so worth the wait when you get to take the exams and pass, looking forward to it!

As will the MCDST however, If you where desperate to have an MCP title do the 70-271 (1/2 MCDST) & get an MCP, then Network+ then back to 70-272 to get an MCDST. :blink

Do you have to retake MS exams again every three years to maintain your cert or is it just some of them?

The (relatively) new "MCITP" certification must be renewed every 3 years and will expire when the product is retired. AFAIK all other certs are permanent but the exams will be retired eventually.

Renewal of MCITP is by passing a single exam. I am not clear if this is one exam to recertify all your ITPs or one per ITP you hold.

The MCTS certifications expire when mainstream support for the products expire.

Going back to your original post green - I think the 70-271 (first part of the MCDST) would be the next best step - from what I'm reading it's pretty easy compared to 70-270 and still gives you the MCP status.

Not just that, everyone will need a client to access the network and it wouldn't be a bad thing to have.
Additionally, this is the route I'm taking but not to be a network admin though :)

    As an aside
if you want to do a network admin role, my would you need a MCSE, wouldn't the Cisco route work better in your favour (I don't mean just yet as the first cisco cert is not entry level)?? MCSE is a least 7 exams - quite a few!

Never looked into CISCO, tbh I don't know much about it, isn't all about switches and routers? I really want to be at the software configuration side of things but not just in a networking sense but as whole operation i.e server backups, installations and maintaining security.
