One of the projects that I'm going to be working on this year is to setup Sharepoint Server 2007 at my workplace, I have no knowledge of Sharepoint server and very little on Sharepoint services so I'm looking for some resources or recommended books for the installation and setup from scratch. ANy help on this would be great. Thanks.

I also intend to install the Sharepoint SLK once I have things up and running but I undertstand there are no authoring tools like there were in Class Server so I'm also looking for some good SCORM compliant authoring software but that can wait for now.

    Si :)

I'm currently playing around with the Sharepoint SLK (it's quite nice), it doesn't require Sharepoint Server, just Sharepoint Services 3. It is recommended that you use SQL server 2005 (make sure that you have at least 1gb of ram otherwise installation will fail).

I'm also looking for a good authoring tool, so that teachers can develop their own material, if push comes to shove we (it Services) will do it but for that I would like another person in my dept.

let us know how you get on.

We're looking at Sharepoint Server because of the added features especially the "My Site" part as this will enable our students to create portfolios. The server spec is fine, it will be running on a 2.3Mhz Xeon Duel core duel processor with 4GB of Ram.

Its the install, setup and terminology etc that I'm really gonna need some help with.

I'm looking at getting these books:

The admin companion is a must have, but there really for maintaining operational systems, not always the best for getting one off the ground, hopfully the dummies book will cover that though

any perticular aspects apart from mysite you will be wanting to use?

Wagner are you refuring to the Sharepoint Learning Kit? the SCORM certified one?
i've been looking at ways to use something like that to benefit CF users with structured study planners and such, give me a PM if you know much about it :)

Si, happy to help a bit more when you have more specific questions, the books look sound tho but im not sure the extend the dummies guide will go into
Sharepoint 2007 books for IT Pros (courseware and such) should be available march/april 2007 and as that date draws near there should be more and more material available for it

also as AJ points out the usergroup is a great resource for information advice, and any newsgroups frequented by the MVPs are always handy as well

This probably won't help you much with your specific goals Si, but I wrote almost half of this book when the primary author suddenly became "unavailable".

You must be in the same situation as us, we have a heavy work load, employers don't want to employ anyone else (even though there's a vacancy) and yet they expect us to to do R&D for the job.

I work in Oundle School. My wife works in a primary school in Northampton. Dare I say who used to be called .ICT "looks after" their computers. As she is the Teaching Assistant who looks after the computer room and library, she always has "nice" words to say about them :dry

Cool, we can then laugh and complain about what the school's want vs how much money they actually give to us.
