They would have to be good to break in to your network Harry! :)

    Aaaahh No!!!

Just when I thought it was safe to go do something else the router goes down. I have lost connection to the network again! For some reason I can't connect through my Wired Lan PC and wireless laptop.:(

The ADSL filter icon flashes I thought it might be the filter and swapped it over but still no response. The settings are the same nothing has changed.:blink

I cant remember whether you connect the filter to the phones or modem, but I'm pretty sure that if connected to the wrong thing then badness occurs ("badness" lol).

    You'd the Man Boyce:rocks:clap:thumbleft

I did this bit mention on that post:-

    * Disconnect everything at the home except the DSL device (no filter). With the correct login and password, watch the DSL light. Does it attempt to sync?

I decide to reconnect the USB Modem and run some diagnostic software I then notice a message showing ADSL line was down.

I followed your advice and disconnected all the phones in the house and even the sky connection at it worked a treat! I have just reconnected the sky phone line and main telephone which goes through the ADSL filter next to the RJ11 line for the Router. :biggrin

That's right, it two ports into the ADSL filter 1 RJ11 the other BT connector and then another BT connector going into the BT box/socket.

I'm not sure how many devices or phones you can connect?? Does anyone know how many volts is the telephone line and how many phones you can have on one line??8)

I think you can connect up to a REN of 4.

Just noticed this post lol. Residential phonelines have a REN (ringer equivelency number) of 4 like wizard said above. If you go above this number you will have problems. Each device has a value of 1. Microfilters have a value of 0.2. Devices include:

phones (each seperate phone has a value of 1, except something like a set of DECT phones with one base station as all phones work from that one unit)
sky (when its connected to phone line)
burglar alarms (the ones hardwired to the phone line)
panic switches for old people (cant remember what they are called)

    Hope that helps:)

With modern electronics it is rare to exceed the REN limit.

This is partly because the method of measuring REN is seriously flawed (from an engineering point of view).

Most problems come from misconfiguring things like filters and from a few rogue devices.

I thought you needed one filter per line.

i.e Filter in phone socket, modem and phone in filter any other devices add another filter to the phone socket and connect the original to the phone plug on the new filter.

Hm - depends on how you read that!

The minimum, as you say, is one filter per line. The filter is on the phone side and can be fitted to a NTE5 if that is your master socket.
If you don't do that then you need one of the little T-piece splitter/filters for each socket used for *voice*. But you shouldn't 'stack' the filters.

    Harry.

Ive had a few calls where people have exceeded this, simply removing one of their phones has corrected their issue. The main problem here is that alot of people dont use "modern electronics" and still use their stone age phones.:)
