    Hi all, some advice please...

Thinking of taking the Comptia route to get a grounding in security: would this be a better option over the MCSA security route? (for a novice.)

Is this a new cert? Is it likely that the content will be amended in the near future?

Anybody have any suggestions/recommendations for study material.

I understand you already have the MCSA? upgrading the an MCSA Security shouldnt be too hard
but I would also recommend the Sec+ as well, especially as a starting block

I recommend the QUE Training Guide and accompanying Exam Cram 2
    they are great books

its also a step on the ladder to he full MCSE:Security
    so a good all rounder

I've never actually used these but they have the virtue of being produced by my buddy Tcat Houser. I did use this when I was in school (last year) studying network security but I never have taken the test so I can't say how good the materials are (the ultimate test of your study guides...do they help you pass?). JMHO. Good Luck.
