Since everyone seemed to enjoy the first game (which is currently winding down), I thought we might try another Werewolf game. I'm thinking we will probably be ready to start on Monday... give everyone the weekend to unwind.

I'll tweak the rules a bit to mitigate issues that came up during the last game. Major changes in red.

In case you haven't heard of it, here's how it goes:

Everyone who plays is a Villager. But living amongst the Villagers are several Werewolves! Who can you trust? Who amongst you is a Werewolf? :ohmy

The Villagers win by killing all the Werewolves.
The Werewolves win when there are as many Werewolves as Villagers... then, it's dinner time!

Every night, the Werewolves will secretly decide on a Villager to kill that night. If the Werewolves cannot agree on a victim, whoever's votes were received first will be the one who is killed.

Every day, the surviving Villagers will discuss amongst themselves and vote for who they believe might be a Werewolf. Whoever receives the most votes is lynched.

On the first day, the villagers will elect a Sheriff; this honor cannot be refused. Once elected, the Sheriff's vote breaks all ties (slightly different than the previous game, where the Sheriff had two votes). If the Sheriff is killed, he names his successor with his dying breath.

There are a few special villager roles (randomly assigned) that should remain hidden:
    • Seer/Fortuneteller: Each night, the Seer can determine whether one player is a Villager or a Werewolf; special roles are not revealed. This sounds like a great ability... but how can you tell the rest of the Villagers whether someone is innocent or guilty without making yourself a target for the werewolves?
[*]Spy/Snoop: Each night, the Spy can choose to sneak around the village to determine the role of one player. This is slightly stronger than the Seer, but there's one major downside: if the Spy snoops on a Werewolf... the Werewolves get to eat twice that night.
    • Hunter: When the Hunter is killed (either by Werewolves or Villagers), he can immediately retaliate by killing a player of his choice.
    • Matchmaker/Cupid: On the first day, the Matchmaker will secretly select two players who will fall madly in love with one another. If one of the lovers dies, the other will die from grief. The Matchmaker can select himself as one of the lovers. A Werewolf and Villager can be in love with one another; if this happens, then they are playing against everyone else - they win by being the last two to survive.
    • Witch/Warlock/Alchemist: The Witch can make two potions: a healing potion and a poison potion. The healing potion will revive a player that has just been killed (either by Werewolves or Villagers). The poison potion will kill the selected player at night. Each potion can be used once per game. The healing potion can be used on the Witch herself.
    • Thief: After the roles have been randomly assigned, two will remain unassigned. On the first day, the Thief can swap his role with one of the two unassigned roles. If both roles are Werewolf roles, the Thief must accept the Werewolf role.

To roleplay your Villager (and it will be much more fun if you do), you might consider using one of the following occupations (any of which could also secretly be the Seer, Spy, Hunter, Matchmaker, Witch, Thief, or... a Werewolf!):

    • Storekeeper/Merchant
    • Barkeeper/Innkeeper
    • Woodcutter/Carpenter/Sawyer
    • Bowyer/Fletcher
    • Cartwright
    • Boatwright
    • Blacksmith
    • Leathersmith
    • Tanner
    • Saddler
    • Coppersmith
    • Tinker
    • Potter
    • Stonemason
    • Shoemaker/Cobbler
    • Seamstress/Clothier
    • Butcher
    • Baker
    • Chandler/Candlemaker
    • Miller
    • Priest/Preacher
    • Doctor/Midwife
    • Apothecary
    • Lawyer
    • Teacher
    • Banker
    • Accountant/Clerk
    • Author/Writer/Playwright
    • Artist/Sculptor
    • Scribe/Printer
    • Barber
    • Farmer
    • Shepherd
    • Fisherman
    • Gardener
    • Undertaker
    • Servant
    • Beggar
    • Stranger/Traveler
    • Minstrel/Bard
    • Town Drunk
    • Village Idiot
    • Hoodlum
    • Prostitute
    • Nanny
...or, come up with your own!

You CAN take an occupation that someone else has already taken!!! Perhaps you work with them... or they might be your competition!

If we get 20 people, there will be the following roles:
    • 4 Werewolves
    • 13 "normal" Villagers
    • 1 Seer
    • 1 Hunter
    • 1 Matchmaker
    • 1 Witch
    • 1 Thief
...with two of the above roles being unassigned (that only the Thief will know).

Unfortunately, you can't kill me. I'm the Moderator. 8) All secret actions by the Werewolves, Seer, Matchmaker, Witch, and Thief should be sent to me via PM or e-mail.

Please do not share your role via external methods (PM, e-mail, voice) with anyone. Not that they will believe you anyway... you could be trying to trick them into believing you are something you're not. :disguise

How much time is involved? Each day-and-night cycle seems to take us about 24 hours to resolve. Therefore, I would recommend that you check in at least once per day, though if you don't, you simply won't be voting that day. If you've got a special role, I'd recommend that you check in a couple times a day, or give me "conditional orders" via PM or e-mail that lets me know what you want to do over the next few days.

So... are you ready for the sequel?

If you want to play, tell us a little about your Villager!

EDIT: Additionally, send me a PM or an e-mail with your e-mail address, so I can e-mail you your Villager status and special role actions. I can't send PMs to multiple people at once, and I can't send them with blind CCs.

Hi, my name is Randy Candy and I'm the towns new prostitute. I like getting it on, if you know what I mean and doggie is my favourite way. I'm also studying to be an actress as I want to appear on the stage in the big city theatres.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Happy to give it another go. Can I remain Col The Scribe? (Also happy to step aside for someone else if the list becomes oversubcribed).

Felicitations. As you all know, I am Col the Scribe, nigh on the only beacon of refinement, reason and culture in this god-forsaken backwater. The only truly learned fellow in this rural hellhole, I learnt my literary craft at Wittenberg and the Sorbonne. And I want to quosh once and for all those scurrilous rumours that I did not in fact pass my studies, and in fact only held the post of janitor at those institutions. I would also like to remind you all in the strongest possible terms that there is no truth to those rumours that I had to leave in disgrace amid a scandal involving over-ripe melons and farmyard animals....

Well, you haven't died yet!

No need to step aside - after all, the game is open to the entire forum, and those who want to play ought to be those who are also quick to respond.

Hopefully the game is also helping forum traffic, gaining a new user or two while motivating "occasional" users to become "frequent" users.
