I actually witnessed somebody handling components like that the other week. I had a graphics card on my desk placed on top of its bag; I looked up and a member of staff had picked it up to have good gander at and he had his fingers all over it including greasing up the gold contacts! When I showed that I was displeased with his handling he said "what?!" "What?!, I'm holding it by the edges!" haha
