Perhaps he didn't do anything to those boys.. they were poor and the parents saw an opportunity to make a mint. I'm sure many would do it.

He was found innocent of many charges, 9 or 10 if I remember correctly, so I believe he just paid the first one off to be done with it rather than going through the long process of court, even though he would've been found innocent.
