I've got the free version of AVG's antivirus software on several computers. AVG keeps complaining to me that its antivirus defs need to be updated (despite the fact that the program in all of the computers is set to update automatically in the middle of the night) but when I go to do a manual update, the connection times out.

This is happening on four separate computers at two different locations so I don't think it's specific to my computers or the networks they run on. Anybody know of a problem with AVG's update servers?

No reports of any problems on AVG's News Page

Just got the same timeout here too - guess their servers are choked with the latest rounds of crap as usual !!!

In my update screen it reports that a priority update is ready to download. I'm just wondering if the servers are overloaded with people downloading this update.:dry

I think with AVG Free it's a simple case of 'you get what you pay for'. Their free update servers are different than their Pro servers, and I don't suppose they are too keen to chuck money at increasing the bandwidth on them since the product is free. :)

I have certainly found them very sporadic in the past. One minute fine, the next no connection at all.

Like you say, Modey - you get what you pay for, and for free, AVG is bloody good. My money says that if their servers ain't delivering again by later tonight, they sure will be by tomorrow :)

Glad for the confirmation. Interestingly enough, when I asked the same questions on a US based forum, everyone said they had no problem connecting. :blink

Mine connects, tells me there's an update and as soon as I click OK, it closes the connection. I've had this happen before and I've always put it down to server overload.
