    HI all,

Is it that when the script maps the drives it is prompting for manual pw to be entered on the novell boxes as they will not be a part of AD then it might require a local logon.

No, the scripts work without interaction. They are designed to do so. My small script example was more like a "look at it like this" way to make things more clear.
The script works fine. It is not the script.

So, sit down and do some troubleshooting:
    Is not he script
    Are not the permission.
    Does'not require any interaction.
    works from command prompt.
    just one script is running
    runs from the NT machine.

I would say is something related to the scheduler.
    Any little help ??
ps: be good, is the end of the week anyway !!!

    Hmmm :hhhmmm

The Novell server is probably idle when the scheduled backup is going to run, is there any power managment\hibernate config on the server? Unlikely I know! :biggrin

That's the troubleshooting spirit I want. Good thinking. Or as Sherlock said: "Elementary Watson, Whet you eleminate the wrongs, what's left must be the truth."
It's the scheduler service. It starts under the local system account (not the job, the service).
Given this, how to solve it?

just start the service with the administrator account rather than the local system account?

Thanks, at the end you need to sit down, relax and start to make the point.
All right, is the scheduler !
So i would let the service start with the same account i used for
    to run the script manually.
I suppose the administrator because is the one added to ntgateway.
Or if i do not want to use the administrator i would create a new service account ( with "password never expire" ), add it to the ntgateway and give the appropriate permission for the ntfs filesystem ( read should be enough ).
I don't know what else i can need for the novell side, but i suppose ntgateway is enough.

That would be a correct option under 2000 and 2003. Under NT4 this was not possible (AFAIK). You had a special program in the resourse kit called anysrv. With this tool you could take any program, batch-file or what ever and let it run as a service.

    OK,
    Ready for the next one?
