I'm halfway though it's only 400 pages as it's the Administrator's Pocket consultant. It will allow me to get a gist of the syntax etc. I will convert a few scripts at work from VBS to PS. I do like the language though as you can do in 1 line, what takes 3 in VBS a bit like some batch language stuff but so much more powerful.
Oh and while I remember I got questions on Powershell on the 70-680!

I had only ever used batch files until my current job, where as there was so much time not doing much (unfortunately) I threw myself into VBS - managed to read and understand the basics within a fortnight, and quickly built scripts to automate a number of items - including scanning all the computer in an OU for a specific registry key or perhaps our entire domain for who is logged on etc. - a great learning curve. All I want now is a more complex task to script for :-)

My next task will be powershell, but as that isn't within my network yet, I'll hold off on that for now!

I've been playing around with it at work. Even at my 1st/2nd line level it comes in handy for routine tasks. I have various server names, functions etc set up in my startup config so I can do less typing and more troubleshooting. I even echoed them out on startup in case I forget what I've done. It's pretty much just doing what one line on CMD can do, but with much less typing.
    I found this http://powershell.com/Mastering-PowerShell.pdf useful.

Admittedly I haven't read it all but this ebook is free and isn't bad at all.

The MS website here is also a good resource

Read a bit then try some examples or try and alter an example to suit you, that's how I always do it.

    Hi CF'ers,

sorry I've been absent from the forums for a few weeks. Holiday followed by a week in London on Global Knowledge's Automating Administration with Windows PowerShell 2.0 (M10325A).

Great course that you can enter into with almost zero knowledge. We went through the basics up through automating your admin tasks. Paul the instructor was excellent and went out of his way to help with problems you have at work etc.

If anyone has any questions on powershell I 'may' now be able to | @{"help"} :)
