ports forwarded, firewall off still no vnc connection allowed

    I believe you can connect to a machine running XP pro via RDP
    I do it myself

    I wouldnt jump for joy about your 'modem' too soon either, by using a moden and not a router your machine is directly attached to the net, bringing with it a heap of trouble if not properly looked after
    (your not the only one who can VNC into your system)

    yes, but you cannot connect to a machine running xp home via rdp. that's what i understand to be the case. source xp pro, destination xp home. if destination is xp pro, then sure, it will work.

    sorry, misread the question
    thought it meant 'a home computer' meaning a PC at home 'using xp pro' meaning, it was running xp pro

    my bad :P

    it may well have the client boyce
    so you can connect to other systems running RDP
    but i think the deal is you cant connect to that system itself, because it is running a consumer OS
