I started about 14 months ago on approx. £12k pa, and this year I've negotiated my salary up to more like £14k. I got the job on the basis of skills demonstrated, as I had no qualifications. Now I do though, and I got them as part of my contract (The boss paid for the training).

I started on just under 14k at my current IT Job... and only had ICT A Level which was useless.

It is amazing how far i've come in 2 years, 8 months to be honest... and as Fergal has said, i'd really struggle on them wages now!

My first job was £15k, which I got just last year, without any qualification(s) (just wip).

I only stayed around 7 months or so before leaving and I'm now earning over 20k and still without any qualification(s) (still wip).

Totally forgot about those. I did AS and A Level IT and none of my interviewers took a blind bit of notice from what I remember. Seems 6th Form was a complete waste from that point of view!

I started in May last year working for an accountants on £13k as a Uni dropout with no qualifications. My primary school teacher's husband is senior partner of the place and that's how I got my foot in the door.
Since then they've pushed me and sponsored me to go back to Uni and i've picked up a few certifications along the way. I'm now on £16k and am due another rise after I graduate (which will hopefully be next week :D)

TPs never quote that salary is for your first job - only that it's the average salary (which it is)

(I know I know they're still tricksy buggers for doing so :P)

yep sorry I should have put their average salary quote is BS. But then again it takes me back to the point that people hear or see this figure and think thats the job for me, then they shell out loads cash for a low waged job after some training scheme.
