If I iwas applying for a Technicians job - Hardware repairs, upgrades, desktop support, installations, printers, cabling etc, all client Pc's that are supported run XP pro under Windows 2K3domain. Servers supported elsewhere.

What would be my ideal certs / qualifications?

Or what would you expect to have to get at least an interview?

Ideal certs for that role would be A+, Network+, MCDST.

To get an interview, the A+ would suffice, so long as you can show that you have the ability to progress further and develop your skills.

Personal qualities can count a lot more for you than certs.

Putting my toungue firmly in my cheek:

You have spent the last 10 years single-handedly running the PC and network support department for the BBC (or any other large corp you can think of).

    :p :p

Plus, on the side, you did the full install for the back-office systems for Megabank in their new Docklands headquarters.

Sounds pretty much like the job I went for.

Got the interview with my A+.

Just sell yourself; if you know you can do the job, you'll be able to sell it well.

Do you have a particular job in mind? What industry? Remember, Certs pertaining to IT aren't necessarily the be-all-and-end-all of an IT career.

    Oh about 15 years!

I seem to be stuck being self employed and can't land a proper job!

I'll add MSCDT to my certs by the end of June and try applying for some more jobs.
