Hey guys, I finished the RH133 Red Hat Linux System Administrators Course Thursday and took the exam today. I passed!!!

    Damned pleased.

The Red Hat course hosted by Xpertise in London was excellent and the facilities at Xpertise are great. (King William Street for those who know the City).

The guy who took the course was a wacky Linux guru type who certainly kept the course interesting. Sven Bold, excellent teacher.

    Woo hoo!

PS. No questions about the exam if you please, I am bound by a Confidentiality Agreement naturally.

    Thanks for the congratulations guys.

As for some info. I'd been using Debian Linux for some years but not really delved much into it. About January this year I downloaded Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Workstation and got myself the onine Red Hat Linux Essentials course which was one of the pre requisites for the RHCT course and exam. 4 of those online courses over a couple of months using RHEL4 with the 30 day trial they allowseemed to help quite a bit and I then took upon studying the book I'd purchsed specifically to cover the exam which was RHCT Red Hat Certified Technician Study Guide (Exam RH202) by Michael Jang from Mc Graw Hill Osborne. Excellent book, although the edition I had was written with RHEL3 in mind there were few differences and there's probably an RHEL4 one due soon anyhow. Great book, so good in fact I think I'll get the RHCE one by the same author just cos it was a great learning tool (being unemployed at present I don't expect to be able to afford the RHCE courses!).

Then of course the course and exam was last week, so about 3.5 months of use and study with about 5 hours a day study 5 days a week for about 2 of those months. (I was being very thorough though and not speeding along.)

I was asked if I thought it was still worth doing the course when I studied the lot in the book anyway. The answer is yes. I learned a lot more and there are subtle hints given at to what might crop up in the exam.

Definitely worthwhile and it does feel like it is worth a great deal being purely practical too.

I'll keep you posted on the job hunting!

Any other questions I can answer guys?

Oh I got to keep the text book we worked from in the course, I got a full set of CD's boxed set of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Enterprise Server (Install cd's, docs cd, and extras, and a 30 day free trial of the Red Hat Network), a Red Hat mouse mat and 2 coasters and finally a Red Hat carrier bag :)

Oh I almost forgot the amazing food and breakfasts laid on each day.

On Thursday I had (from a choice of 3 items on the main menu) Filo pastry parcels of Haddock and Prawn with broccoli, sweetcorn and new potatoes followed by chocolate sponge with real custard.

    Yum.

All week was the same type of great food. Coffee and tea each break with biscuits and cake in the afternoon too!

So bascially you passed using online courses and books? and then decided to go on the course? I thought Red Hat have said that one MUST go on the course? So RHCT/RHCE can be done by yourself?
