The starwind software you used was an iSCSI target, so it's an MS equivalent. Dunno if it's any cop or not though.

Brilliant that's good to hear as VMware recommends a gigabit nic ports for when using Vmotion.

Just to report back - I guess I will be starting from scratch with ALL my VMs (had about 8 ), the disk which housed my StarWind SAN images seems to have bitten the dust completely, have been running GetDataBack on it for a few days trying to salvage anything but getting a lot of clicking!

Bit annoying but no great loss I suppose, there were a few server VMs which I had built up over previous certs, all gone!! The drive was a WD drive, date on it is 2005 , it was my first ever SATA drive...

Will now be recreating it on my new RAID 5 setup, at least I have some redundancy there now! Also going to wait 'til my gigabit switch turns up before I bother setting it all up again...

Also trying to work through my 70-291 book at the moment so trying to concentrate on that :D

Just be careful with starwind, depending on how you've got it setup it may be using RAM as a fastcache which is great from a performance point of view but not so great if it doesn't have a mirror if things go to pot

    where is that setting then?

It will be on a raid 5 now so dont know if I am OK to leave it as it is now then?

Will check to see how it is set up :)

You set it when your creating the target on starwind and don't think you can edit this setting afterwards

    Thanks :)

Just checked and no caching is enabled, so I'm OK on that front - however have lost both my image files so back to square one!
