perhaps they should have spent a bit of that money working on their social and pollution issues!

Agree that the ceremony was pretty impressive though, I explect all we will put on is a brass band and a couple of racing pidgeons, (maybe some morris dancers if we are lucky).

...meanwhile development of the Olympic Village for 2012 has just been completed a tremendous 4 years before the games are due to even be held!

Local residents are positively buzzing at the thought of welcoming such an international bevvy of sporting stars!

The government has even completed a sensational new public transportation network 4 years ahead of schedule that has been welcomed with open arms by residents:

As for Beijing 2008, I don't intend for a second to watch any kind of display (by that I mean opening and closing ceremony) of 'Olympic spirit' by a country with such an appauling human rights record such as them.

I know the Olympics is about world class athletes competing and they only get a shot at such a goal once every 4 years so I am not condoning a total boycott of the games. I guess it's also a difficult decision to make when you are an athlete competing at these games and your morality regarding these political matters is questioned. That I understand.

As for the actual sporting events, GO TEAM GB! GO SPAIN! and GO CAYMAN ISLANDS!

Talking of the red arrows we got a free display at work on thursday. Spent most of the afternoon starring out of the window, they were so close I could almost see the pilot.

We are situated very close to an raf base, which is also the reason why we work a lot on our dr plan. :-)

Well it was definitely the best opening ceremony for any sporting event let alone the Olympics. The Brits have said they will "emulate it", how thats going to happen I have no idea but its obvious from that comment they were thinking "oh $h1t" lol.

But well done China on a great opening. :biggrin
