I'm having prombles accessing the internet. Called my isp, they said my signals are great, my modem and nic are working good. Yet I can be here or at my site and I can't access anywhere eles. I can move anywhere within that site but not to a different site. I can even be in IM when I can't pull up my homepage. And you talk about slowwww. This comes and go specially for the last seveal weeks and today was really bad. The tech told he really thought it was something with my comp. I use avg and update and run it daily, I use spybot and ad aware. Does anybody have any idea what this could be. I really don't want to wipe my hard-drive and start over again. :(

I've started using Pest Patrol. It picks up adware, spyware and viruses and I find it gets hold of things that Norton doesn't.
They've got a free on-line scan at their website (assuming you can get there) which will tell you what you've got and how to manually remove it. If you want to buy the thing to remove it automatically it's about $50.
    That's where I'd start...

DL a copy of NetMeter so you can see exactly how much traffic is coming and going from your pc. If you use firefox there is a bandwidth testing extension you could try to make sure your connection is ok. The usual scans for spyware and trojans etc, in case you picked up something nasty. I use AVG, Symantec on line scanner, and I have recently found two very good trojan scanners, TDS-3 and Trojan Hunter. Do you use firefox ? I sometimes get a 'connection was refused' message at random intervals, I have to reboot to get things working again. It could be a DNS issue, try TreeWalk DNS to do the DNS lookup on your computer rather than waiting for your ISP's server to do it. I don't know if any of that will help, hope you can fix it without resorting to wiping your hard drive.

    Hi Mitz!

Had a similar problem recently. I found out it had something to do with service pack 2, which doesn't like "Reinstallation" or "Upgrade" CD's?

Anyway, if you are using either of these, I would advise getting a copy of the FULL windows of XP (assuming it's XP you're using).

Also, I disabled "auto download" (to which XP gets a sulk on and starts nagging you) this can be turned off though. I would choose to be informed of the downloads and choose carefully which updates to install. Auto update just causes all kinds of problems and installs stuff which effects other software you have.

    Hope it helps

Thanks Davver but I'm on a full copy of windows 2000 Pro. And I took you advice about the windows download. :) It has stop acting up. I'm begining to wonder if my cable connections may be bare somewhere. Because the sun has been shining the last few days and I've not had a promble at all.
