Is it just me, doesn't that scare anybody else. I'm pretty adventerous, but staying in a room for £13 can't be a good place; it might be fun, but not to stay. Or am I too American? Well, Canadian but you get the point.

It was just a hostel, but to be honest staying in the red light district in amsterdam is nothing to be worried about, its not like a normal red light area that would be filthy and full of bagheads. Its Just a peaceful area.

I would never stay in a cheap room in London or any where else as they would be dodgy.

Find me one, and I'll give you a medal!

My sister lives near Brick Lane E1, near the old Spitalfields market area. That area is considered seedy, and with some of the goings-on I've seen, it's GOT to be a red light district. One end of the road is an Ibis that's £95 a night, and that's one of the cheapest... bit of a bugger when I work nearby and my sister isn't in!

By cheap in London I mean about £100.

It must be dodgy for a Woman in red light area in the UK, in Amsterdam its a totally different culture and way of thinking. You see children with their parents walking through the district its not seedy at all.

BTW whats my prize for the members member award do I get a gold statue like in the Oscars heh heh :)

stay away from the grasshoppers, explore the side streets :)

Why not try a bon-bon or two, £2-3 each and very nice.:biggrin

If you have a spare night to party a bit, swing by rush hour records and ask about what is happening, this will save you getting stuck in some dive with a stag party from Essex :biggrin They are a very friendly bunch in that shop and if your gonna go out in the 'dam, go where the locals party.
    just one more thing

Well I take it you mean central london !

Drugs and prostitution is rife across the whole of the uk, last time i stayed in a paddington hotel I was offered both within minutes of leaving my hotel.

I'm on contract and currently have been living in hotels for 3 months in greater london, rooms can be had for as little as £19 but yes agreed most low end prices are £65-£95.

I consider most of london fairly seedy ! but thats probably because i'm more of a small town person, but seriously a cheap hotel in general does not have to mean you're gonna be on the set of sin city !

Well thanks for the suggestions fellas, off soon (pick up by taxi at 11).

Got my mobiles (work and personal), got me luggage, got the stuff i need for work out there, and i've had to nick me son's IPOD so i have some tunes and 2 movies i've loaded on it. (well i wont have a lappy to watch dvds on). Gonna go mad with no net for 5 days.... maybe if i plead my work colleague will let me borrow his lappy one night to check emails etc in the hotel.

Lets hope i have a good time (and pray the planes batteries have been charged!)

There's not much I can say, since we're in "North America" as it is. If "America North" sounds better - I can live with it. Since we're doing this, can I have duty-free shopping. U.S prices rock! :biggrin

I've never been to Amsterdam, so I'll take your word for it. But I've been to London, and some major US cities (incl. San Francisco) and the seedy areas seem pretty "dodgy" to me :blink. Saying that, London was great times becuase there were locals to take me around, but I sure saw my share of dodgy! :ohmy
