Rubbish answer. I like porn but don't feel obliged to shove top shelves magazines into the faces of others! :D

For goodness sake, no-one's offended me. It just seems to me that those that have faith are forever going on about other people respecting their beliefs. Why can't they respect others and stop preaching to them all the time? For example, it's impossible for me to walk through the city centre of Bath (my home town) without somebody accosting me and trying to sell me God... :blink

Just seems to be all one way IMO. But sorry if I caused any offence. :)

Although I commented on my faith in response to a posted question, remember the title of this thread is "Obama Wins". It might be better to return to the topic at hand, which can be emotionally charged enough, rather than diverting the topic into something even more inflammatory. :offtopic

No problem onoski, there's never an excuse to be anything but. :)

And I've just re-read my post and I actually give off the impression of being an atheist. That's not the case, I'd actually describe myself as agnostic. I'd like to believe that there's a God out there for sure. The reason I'm dubious is that there's so many different interpretations of this 1 person, or being (not sure of the correct terminology).

I tried, I failed. The force is weak with me today, the hangover...is strong!

Is it me or did anyone else think McCain was an evil bile spewing turtle.

Thankyou for your reply, to be honest im an Atheist, this was after years of looking into various religions and deciding none of them contained answers, and i decided the best bet was to focus on myself and the people I come into contact with.

And as for Porn, everyone already knows the pleasures, but social decorum says we should keep that to ourselves ;)

Anyways ive gone OT enough, so id like to say bes twishes to Obama, and I hope he (and the Democrats) makes the world a better place

A load of Pro-Israeli, racist junk that article. Essentially, according to this article Obama is a Black racist who will leave Israel to fend for itself while hanging out with a load of terrorists and extremist factions. What a load of rubbish.

John McCain may be a War Hero but I did have a laugh over his foreign policies and idea of sending more soldiers to Iraq. John was involved in a war very similar to Iraq. He was involved an unwinnable war against a well versed and trained guerilla force, to prop up a bent and corrupted government which cost the lives of 1000's of innocent civillians and American Soldiers. I would have thought the horrors of vietnam may have made him realise sending kids barely out of school to a war zone they'd struggle to point out on a map may be a bad idea. Clearly not.

Personally IMO religion and Politics should never mix, thats part of the reason places like Iran and Israel are such a danger to the world's security.

    Bit harsh, I think.
If Iran and Israel are such a big threat to the world what do you suggest if not an agressive approach?

Don't get me wrong, I was never fooled by the Sadam propaganda. You need an iron hand to control a fanatical socitety. With all the power in the world the US can't control that country.

    Why?
    George W Smart? - I think not
George W realy think Sadam could possibly threaten America? - No
    US Econony doing well?
    Has he got anything right?

Was he just after the oil and to take focus away from his falling ratings that he started the War on Iraq that cost so many innocent lives? - perhaps, if so then I wouldn't call him a saint!

This is a weird thread. What I would like to say though is congrats to Mr Obama I just hope people didn't vote for him because of his colour and not his policies.

As for religious thing I always wondered If Jesus came from Nasareth then Jesus would have been dark skinned and wouldn't have looked like Max Von Sydow in that Jesus film, would that change their perceptions or beliefs?

I don't want to start a flame war or anything just curious.

Actually, the article I really meant to post was one written by Melanie Phillips. While I respect Naomi Ragen's opinion in many things, I did get the two emails I'd gotten mixed up. Here are the quotes I was thinking of when I made my original post in this thread (sorry for the poor "research" in posting the wrong link and author):
My concern (and you don't have to agree with me), is that Obama's basic conceptualization of the US as the universal "bad guy" that has to make up for sins against the world, plays right into the hands of terrorists. Terrorism doesn't exist because the US hasn't been nice and being nice to terrorists. Apologizing to terrorist groups and acknowledging that they have a right to hurt people, won't make them stop committing acts of violence. My concern is that Obama's fundamental view of America and the world will weaken our nation, drive it closer to generalized socialism and make us the latest superpower to fall under the weight of "world opinion".

And yes, GBL, the real "Jesus of Nazereth" was most likely quite dark skinned, just like any other native of the middle east. Jesus isn't the pale skinned "European" looking fellow depicted in most movies, television shows, and paintings.

    Here's the full article:

EDIT: Having said all that, he's going the be the President of the United States starting on January 20, 2009. I didn't like George W. Bush at all and felt he wasn't intellectually up to the challenge of the office. However, regardless of who has been sitting in the Oval Office, I have always respected the Office of the Presidency. In that sense, I will watch and wait and see how Mr Obama leads. I hope I'm wrong, but I do so for the sake of the US and of the rest of the free world.

Agreed but this is how the terrorists see the US and the UK. Beacuse they see us as trying to rule over them.

Which shouldn't happen, giving in will make them worse.

    Why is that?

I have never got the racist thing ever, everyone is the same to me. I questioned it when I went to Sunday school nwhen I was a kid and no one would answer me, just like when I questioned them about some of the stories in the bible.:blink

    Trip:

I enjoy reading your posts and have great admiration for you. But again I find myself disagreeing with what you've said. Just because Obama's acknowledged that America's global reputation has been damaged during Bush's tenor, doesn't make him a friend of the extremists. Like it or not people's perception of America as a country HAS been damaged due to Bush's failed foreign policy initiatives. And it's not just America, the same rules apply to the UK. Global reconciliation has to be near the top of his agenda. Just like David Cameron's when, as is likely, he's appointed PM in 2010.
