    Not necessarily true.

Just because people might quit, isn't completely cutting of a form of government funding.

Smoking related illnesses, from figures around 1998, cost the NHS £1.8 billion a year (apparently). If this starts reducing, they'll coup some money back, just from people being healthier.

'Taxes will be raised' is too general a statement; which tax? We pay a lot of it, mate :biggrin

I personally think that any lost government revenue will either be made up in the green laws and recycling initiatives that people keep bandying around, or the next budget will see a further increase in tobacco and alcohol duty, to cut smoking more and curb binge drinking. Like that will ever happen.

EDIT: you think we have it bad? Check this table out.

I didn't get fat when I quit :dry

If you have the right reason, it's not a problem. The problem that most people I know have, is willpower. They all got started smoking because it was 'cool'. It was 'the thing to do'. We all got our pocket money together, bought packets of 20 Lambert and Butler, and hid over the park. And from there, you have an addiction that went for... ooh... 6 years?

I quit for the man I'm with now. He didn't ask me to quit. He has never smoked. I wanted to give him the courtesy of having someone who didn't smell like an ashtray at the end of every day. I didn't use patches. I never looked back.

    Just back from Belfast.
Now in the train station you are not alowed to smoke not just
inside but not even 10 meter outside the premise.
10 meters outside means go in the middle on the road.Ridicolous !
