    Hi CF members.

I am looking to change careers and turn my amateur computer tinkering into something more profitable. I have read quite a lot of the threads about getting started and the Comptia A+ and MCDST as a first step.

I will continue to search the forum before I start asking questions that already have answers.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom to help get me started?

    Thanks!:D

Do the A+ first... Get yourself the two books, the Mike Meyers AiO and PC Technician Street Smarts and get yourself an old PC to practice on.

Books on order. Thanks Wahnerk for the recommendation. Nice bit of bedtime reading. I will pull a PC together with some left overs. Can I build a VM test bed or should I use hardware only?

    Welcome!

You can certainly use a VM... at some point, though, you'll probably want at least two physical devices.

I have compiled an old celeron system, DVD, 60gb HD. Would this be a suitable test bed or do I need somthing more powerfull. I don't really want to use my main PC's but have no problem pushing this one over the edge.

My only problem is this system has XP Home. Do I need to install XP Pro for additional adminstrator functionality?
