I said technet in my original post, also MS also offer the trials of XP. 2000 isn't available anymore.

But as I also said you can buy MS press books with trials in, you can still get the ones with windows 2000 the mcdst ones come with xp pro.

All you do is open up the virtual machine stick the disc in your dvd drive and it will install on to the virtual machine. It's not very hard its just like doing it for real except it's virtual :blink:D

The VP will work under Windows Vista, even the Home Premium. But it is NOT supported, with that error message you still can continue with the installation. Again Microsoft will not support this installation.

    what he said ^

Just install it as if you run into trouble you can ask people on here instead of talking to someone you can't understand on microsofts help line.

VMware player is free and does not expire, virtual machines can be created manually or with freeware tools.

I find it hard to believe you're not on the wind up. lol.

However, I had a quick look at the VM I use, Virtual Box, as it's very easy to use and setup but sadly it turns out it doesn't support Vista.

Hmm ye, this is quite a useless post now I guess :(

    *EDIT*

    Hmm, however:

Apparently it does run on Vista, guess I missed that. Oh here..

    Prerequisites
Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

    ..
    ..
    ..

    Using Other Windows Versions
Building VirtualBox on Windows Vista works fine with one exception, kBuild is making use of Almquist's ash shell which is built using cygwin. As of writing in order to get cygwin to work properly on Windows Vista, you will need to use a cygwin1.dll dated 2006-11-02 or later. See http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-11/msg00059.html for details and http://cygwin.com/snapshots/ for the dll. Download the dll, unpack it, and copy it to kBuild/bin/x86.win/cygwin1.dll.

So yea! I'd try Virtual Box - it's really good :)

like i've said before you can get copies of xp pro with the MCDST press book or you can download trials. not sure about windows 2000 though.

And you can use virualpc from microsoft.

what do you need 2000 for? if its for the A+ i wouldn't worry about I doubt youl get any questions on it

looks like they have stopped doing it, you will have to buy the MS Press books for the MCDST/70-270 or MCSA/E which will included 180 day trials.

Server 2003 is still available for download for 180 days
