Yeah, but they're a jazz band. And jazz is American.

I've got the Dixie Dregs on right now BTW.

Hmm Jazz may have originated in America but i think you will find many fine bands in the UK and other places around the world that can rival, if not surpass the best that New Orleans can offer.

Blues has it's roots in the same place but that doesn't mean Eric Clapton can't claim to be one of the best blues guitarists ever born. 8)

If four guys on a street corner in Brooklyn start yodelling I'd be just as surprised. That doesn't mean all good yodellers have to come from Switzerland or all yodellers from Brooklyn are bad. It just means I was expecting a barbershop quartet.

Today, I've been mostly listening to the Deftones - which isn't surprising, since I'm seeing them live tonight at Brixton

Kraven - thenNew Machine Head album rocks, but starts to get a bit repetetive in the second half of the album. The first three tracks, though, are utterly awesome.

Best Chilis album IMHO is Mother's Milk - absolutely seminal album.

Their earlier B-Sides & 'oddities' were excellent - if you haven't heard it yet, check out 'Show Me Your Soul' - its genius

:blink And i presume you still think all british bobbies start conversations with, "'ello 'ello 'ello, what's going on 'ere then?" - closely follwed by a crook in an arrowed suit saying, "it's a fair cop guv and no mistake".

It ain't like that in blighty guv, honest :biggrin

er *cough* they are one of the worlds greatest ever rock bands, sheesh my generation grew up with them, the stones, the beatles and many other iconic bands - don't let Baba O'Riley (wherever he is) read that remark, especially as his name comes from one of their songs

Well, I like rap (older rap admittedly, I'm not really a fan of much after about '01-'02). It most certainly IS music - as is any other form of music which you might or might not like. Simply not liking something doesn't mean it isn't music - just because I think UK Garage sounds like someone chucking a shopping trolley down a flight of stairs doesn't mean I would say it isn't music. I just wouldn't listen to it.

Also, I find that most people who say 'I listen to most music' are usually the most narrow-minded people out there. I once went out with a girl who said she had 'really wide taste in music'. What she really meant was "I listen to Goth and Industrial only and, because most other people don't, that makes me really cool."

I GENUINELY listen to a wide variety of music - including most forms of metal, a lot of jazz - mainly trad but some fusion too, classical, rock, indie, industrial, rap, soul, ambient, breaks and dance. About the only things I won't listen to are pop, what passes for R&B these days (R&B to me is Motown, Philly Soul etc, not Usher or Nelly), garage and house.

At the moment I'm going through a serious Miles Davis phase - I've got tons of vinyl that I've just converted to MP3 and am listening to on my portable.

    Now THAT's music!

Right now it's the Metallica S&M album.

I do quite love instrumental (orchestral) rock at the moment. Lined up a couple of Apocalyptica albums to listen to later.
