its the same principle as a bios firmware upgrade but not in DOS

i done a hack on the drive itsself, but i just cant remember why i done it?

personally, i rather use software region-free than hacking the drive itself.

Ya might possibly have done it for more compatability with various media. I recently done my laptop drive and now i can do dual layer discs, as the drive in question was the same as dual layer drives, but with a different badge and new FW

The main things that go wrong, are people flashing the wrong firmware, and having a powercut during the firmware upgrade. If ya post the exact model drive il check for ya if u want

Cheers Raf, appreciate it, I'll get the details tomorrow.

I vaguely remember doing a new BIOS on my system ages ago and being warned about the possibilities of a powercut totally FUBAR'ing everything, I take it this is the same principle then?

What about DVD genie? That's free?

designed for DVD's bought from another country.

I use that quite a lot on my PC - DVD player, there are so many films out there available in the US but not in the UK!

Whoops forgot to post the link:oops:

Here we go DVD genie (does what it says on the tin)

DVD Genie allows you to modify the region code for popular software-based DVD Players including such players as Software Cinemaster, PowerDVD and WinDVD (among a few). It also allows you to tweak these programs with undocumented features to better fit your system. :biggrin

Cockles, do you have a set-top DVD player? Most of them can be enabled for multi-region by entering a certain code on the remote control. It's a lot safer than firmware upgrades on your DVD drive.

i agree with Baba - but you may need to buy one of those magic remote controls for the player just for the one off set up...

But not always, both mine were enabled with the standard remote. You can also configure a PDA with an IR port to transmit the correct signals instead of buying an all-in-one remote.

    Hi

At the moment running an internal Pioneer DVD drive, bloody forgot to get the model of it again, although I tried to go onto the firmware pages and the firewall stopped me for 'hacking' purposes.

I downloaded Genie but didn't have time try it out last night. To be hinest, I am going to but a DVD burner in the near future, so I'll keep my original drive, have one set to region 1 and the other on region 2, job done!!!

Seeing as the drives are only about 20 notes thats cheaper than the bloody multi-region software
