If you really think MS isn't anti-open source it's proof that you don't understand what open source is all about. What MS puts forward as their "open source" licenses is anything but open source. MS owns the IP, the software will only run on Windows, and nobody can fork any of the projects to take them in another direction. That's not open source by any definition. That's just MS getting people to develop something for them for nothing and giving MS the rights to the IP.

This is the same old embrace, extend, extinguish strategy that MS has used multiple times to harm competitors and help themselves. MS wants to confuse the lines between proprietary and open source software because it's to their advantage to do so just like they did with Java by creating their version which if the software was developed on a Windows box with Window's version of Java it would not run on another platform without a lot of work. MS took a cross-platform language and made it a Windows platform. It set Java usage and development back many years in doing so.

It's just more of the same old, same old, from MS and you have fallen for their line of half-truths.

Surely its also the same from Yahoo & Google, their services & systems arnt open source.

If MS take over Yahoo, they wont be ripping out all the systems overnight, & anything they develop on the existing open source systems will have to be released anyway.
Basically it is likely to stay as it is, a mixture of systems.

'US internet company AOL' so a little american firm, which dosnt have a clue about what to do, looks at buying an international company, with what! I dont know how big a part of Time Warner AOL is, but it cant be anywhere near the value of Yahoo
    Yahoo worth $39.64bn http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=YHOO
    Time Warner worth $59.28bn http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=TWX

    News corp buy?
    The Times June 2007 http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/media/article1957867.ece
& who has a stake in facebook? microsoft!
    News Corp worth $59.61bn http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=NWS-A

If Yahoo said no to Microsoft, what could it do? http://www.guardian.co.uk/feedarticle?id=7330539

    Microsoft Corp. worth $257.62bn http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MSFT

It will all come down to money & big investors.
MS has got the funds to fulfil the existing offer, & could easily raise extra cash, currently they have no debt. Investors would he happy with MS shares as well.
AOL: no money, probably difficult to raise money, & would a yahoo investor want to be part of that mess?
News corp: maybe has the money, but would yahoo fit into news corp? Whats happened to myspace since they bought it?

...and the comment about the estimate 1 in 10 employees will leave yahoo is complete pants. Anyone knows that in large corporations an average of 10% staff turnover per year is normal.
