    Hi, all!

I know it might not be the best place to post this question, but I think you guys will be able to give me the answer I am seeking!

I am a third year Finance and Investment student really passioned about Excel, but I do not have a qualification to prove that. I am planning to sit the exam for microsoft office specialist and wanted to ask you guys your opinion on the exam. What do you think about it's reputation? How difficult is?

Also, I would like to know if you would recommend me participating in the courses that are being offered by the exam centers which cost between 200€ and 400€ for 16 hours. I do use excel quite often and do complex things with it, but I cannot asses my level of knowledge because I do not know anything about the difficulty of the exam.

Thank you very much for your help!
    Cheers!

    Hello risnoved,

MS have a second shot promotion at the moment in UK so that allow you to attempt the exam twice for one price.
    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-gb/second-shot.aspx

There are offical exam guides from microsoft :-
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=mos-2013

There are practice tests available from Kaplan and Transcender.

    https://www.transcender.com/practice-exam/microsoft/77-420.kap

You do not mention the exam if it is MOS or MOS Expert ?

I would probably read as much of the book as you can and then take the exam using second shot, if you fail, study up on the weak areas and re-take. Check the small print, find test centre and book early though.

You probably want to learn some VBA and write a blog to get employers interested.

Its also worth checking out Python, NumPy and Pandas, coursera and packtpub

Not a finance guy but have worked at investment banks. Feel free to PM me.

Its been a while since I did the MOS certification but from my experience a good book was enough to get me through the exams, if you already have a good working experience with Excel it wont be too difficult especially the foundation level exam. Let us know what you choose to do and your decision process, I'm sure others finding this thread would benefit from it.
