Well, I've taken a back seat when it comes to exams in recent years, mainly Microsoft exams (yes, I've gone and done the Cisco CyberOps, and tried out the CEH among others). But really just needed a break from them.

While I've done a few fundamental ones over the past decade, my last heavy Microsoft exam was in 2015 with the Microsoft Specialist: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician, and it's been even longer with heavy hitters; the old style MCSA's and MCSE's...

Anyway, fast forward to today and I decided to have a go with the new(ish) Microsoft Credentials. For those that don't know what they are, see here. So looking through all of them, I decided to go for all faithful, the Administer Active Directory Domain Services credential. You do the training, then you sit a 1-2 hour practical assessment (for this one it was a 2 hour assessment). Going thru the training and the assessment, for someone who has worked with AD for over 2 decades now, it's pretty second nature. However even someone who has worked in that environment for all that time, I did actually still learn a thing or two. Actually enough to have justified the hour or so training.

Anyway, I'm pleased to say that I did pass with 88%, not sure how it's marked, eg is using the GUI less than using powershell??? Who knows. But at the end of the day, it's the end result, so I'm happy with it :)

:cheersAh Ken this is great news. Very well done and good on you. Exactly the same as you. There was a time when I was obsessed with Microsoft exams. I remember back in the day sitting some just because I had a free voucher. I’d spend weeks studying then drive to a Center only to fail. I look back now and think wow I must have been mad ha ha. Such was the desire to get all of their certs. To get ahead in work and quench that thirst for knowledge. The ISA exam was the one I couldn’t pass no matter how hard I tried and didn’t they only go and end of life it in the end anyway! :thumbdwn

It was the Windows XP exam that started my obsession. Then the MCSA and MCSE like so many of us. I’m not sure if I’d pass any today but I’d quite fancy getting Microsoft certified again. When I left VMware some of my friends went to Microsoft. I’ve just seen one on LinkedIn post he’s come back from Redmond and I must admit. It did look awesome
