    hi to all ,
i know i'm going to find the info i'm looking for here ,i can sense it :biggrin
my story is a sad 1 ,i changed isp's due to lack of speed and ended up on sky's 16 mb deal

.after an initial delay of 3 weeks i got connected .this connection was never upto the 16mb as sold, too make matters worse the connection kept dropping every 16 minutes ,

i phoned sky and basically got messed about talking to idiot after idiot ,so in the end i said look i know the problems your router please give me the setting codes to use my own router ,
i installed the codes and it worked perfectly !

at which point i decided i wanted to be a computer technician so off to google i went and ended up at cerco's online test ,which i passed ,so i look into cerco a bit further and book the assesment day ,april 11th ,
in the mean time ive had the advent bloke give me his talk and although mcse is obviously the best course i feel home learning would not be as good as hands on instructor led

my aim is to work for myself building servicing and maintaining computers and networks .

i'd like to do it as quick as i can which is why i like the cerco approach ,but i'd prefer a more recognised certificate

,has anyone got any suggestions or guidance theyd like to give i'm all ears

    thanks all
ps sorry it was a bit long

Hmm, i don't mean to sound discouraging but that ^^ sounds a tad egotistical - things are not always quite so easy to solve. Working in IT can be very stressful and tough at times and changing careers into IT should not be taken lightly.

    Hi and welcome to CF.

I would suggest you grab yourself a good A+ book and see if IT is for you.
If you like it, then the path Sparky suggested is a good, logical one, which can be achived by yourself with a lot of hard work, time and dedication.

    Good luck.

    Greetings & Welcome to CF:biggrin

Good advice from Sparky and Boyce there:thumbleft
You can't run before you walk!
Start at the beginning with A+ get yourself a solid foundation before going down the cisco route.

Like Blue Rinse states, IT is not a five minute job.:biggrin

Welcome to CF, my only advice would be not to jump into booking anything. Make sure this is what you want, IT is not just a job, its a lifestyle. It takes alot of hard work to get into, and then even more hard work to maintain a fulltime IT Job and keep up with the new technology.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Welcome to CF and the world of IT, it's hard work and with keen determination you can excel. As Boyce rightly stated get the A+ book to see and have a feel if you might be able to go the distance.

    Cheerio and welcome once more:D
