If it helps I was in the same position when I graduated. Having a MSc ruled me out of many entry level jobs and anything more than that needed experience. I did land a full time IT job eventually!

I kept a record of all the jobs I applied for in an Excel spreadsheet, had a few hundred jobs in it! :biggrin

Unfortunately, I've met far too many "MCSE"s who don't know how to format a hard disk or troubleshoot hardware or software problems... and so have employers hiring for these positions.

Further, the A+ is QUITE helpful for getting entry-level jobs by setting you ahead of your competition. Even if you already know the stuff on the A+, getting the certification is something concrete you can list on your CV to help set yourself apart.

Try taking the MCSE off your CV and just adding 2-4 MCP's instead and then try going for entry level jobs. or you could take the MCSE off your CV and put MCSA and then go for 2nd line roles. It worked for me :)

Thanks once again for replaying. I would never suspect so many people went through I am going now.
I am happy to know the reality. It is quite awakening (Snowwhite :) ) and eye opening. I hope it is also a warning for others who only see the IT world as presented by adverts of teaching companies . I am not naive, but even I had been a little bit seduced by the vision of the "paradise".
From the other side, reading all spectrum of IT vacancies, the MCSE roles are not the only roles to be advertised by the employers. I think that there is a bigger need for SAP, Oracle, databases or .NET applications specialists. But it is not highlighted by any advertising campaign. You have to go yourself on job websites to get to know about it. I really wonder where this MCSE madness came from? Of course it can be Microsoft's well done job.

Hi snowwhite and welcome. What training provider did you use or did you do this all off of you own back. Some training providers are a redflag to employers because of the use of braindumps. Keep your chin up though theres alot to be said for determination

    Hi,

My training provider was absolutely good and is worth recommendation. It was pure professionalism. This company is not so well known as others, because they do not shout. I found them quite accidently using this forum and I am glad. I would never say bad word on them. I do not blame anybody. I did what I wanted to do. I am simply analysing the situation on the job market I wasn't prepared for. That's all. I still belive especially after reading so many posts "this" moment will come sooner or later :)

Yes, but those jobs also typically require experience as well. You don't start out in IT working with those technologies, with the possible exception of programming .NET apps... you work your way up to them.

I was in the same situation. I am 'mature' no experience in IT (great knowledge though) and A+ and work on the checkouts. I paid to have my CV redrawn, stuck in on the net and have had a few 'bites' I am actually going for a second interview, help desk/1st line support, on Tuesday. Just have to convince them I'm not ready for a walking stick yet.

When nobody is interested after sending so many application the worst thing to do is to start thinking my age, color, sex and country are wrong. The majority of women will live until 100 in very forseable future ( 20 years time !), so it should change the employers' approach to the age-related problem.
    Fingers crossed on Tuesday! :)

Michael hinted at this, but going for dba positions is a lot tougher than you think. Most dba positions any more are multi-skilled positions. Unless you get into a very large company a dba has to be as much of a developer as they are a technician, and that's a very large skill set. It takes a lot of time to develop all those skills, so it pretty much eliminates the newbie by default.

If you do take .net, pick the correct language. I am looking for a new role now but because I have over 2 years vb.net experience and I use C# at home no one will touch me.

Still, its time to keep hunting. I just paid a company to re-write my CV and they appear to have made a good job of it, christmas is a slow period so I am planning on doing the major applying after.

    Keep trying though.

I'll even apologize in advance for trying to be humorous about something like this. So, sorry in advance, but the wording of your post just struck my sense of humor.

I'm sorry you can't find a job, but that's what you get for using MS products at home. You should use them only while away from home.... :biggrin:biggrin:biggrin

yet again, a sensible post gets ruined by someone wanting to blame MS for something else.

LOL. Yet again, a joke gets interpreted as a serious statement by someone without a sense of humor. If you'll really look at his statement it's worded so that it seems he can't find a job because he uses C# at home. Now, I understand that wasn't his meaning, but that's exactly what he said. It's just one of those humorous situations that arise because of how something happens to be worded.

So, grow a sense of humor. It will help you get through the day without getting mad about nothing.
