MCSE 2012 Track begins

I plan to get the latest MCSE then give MS certs a rest for a good while. It would take a radically different OS after 2012 to tempt me to go through all of this again. I have my first exam tomorrow. I've not commented too much on the content of the exam yet in case I get my eye wiped and fail miserably. If I pass I'll elaborate more on what I focussed on. All respecting the NDA of course.

I have really enjoyed a refresh on managing AD and implementing Group Policy. Anyone keen on Powershell will love Server 2012. I'm waffling! I hope I've studied the right subjects. Time will tell if I've missed anything :S Jim

Also, while this is my 2012 MCSE thread, I can't help but share my thoughts on this and that, likes of how much MS is pushing Powershell (which I'm very happy about knowing zero VB), but also the amount of Hyper-V related material for the 2012 MCSE track. 70-410 has Powershell and Hyper-V laced throughout. I'm hoping my MCTS in H-V and me being a PS junkie will help me out in the exam, fingers crossed!

I am really impressed with how Hyper-V is developing, and I can see it gaining market share the way MS are selling 2012 as a cloud based OS. A major contract I work on is currently tasking us with designing a Hyper-V replacement for an older ESX3.5 cluster. Despite having ESX4> widespread on the environment. Something I would have thought highly unlikely just a year ago.... I look forward to reading the designs and helping accept it into support

PS Sorry if thats very pro MS but I am a Powershell junkie living off the money my MS training affords me

Must admit the improved Hyper-V features is a big selling point for me. Have suggested Hyper-V to some customers rather than go down the VMware route and I am getting a positive response which would have never have happened a few years ago!

Currently logged into a couple of Server 2012 boxes to migrate DFS from Server 2008 – I’m still struggling with the Server 2012 GUI so I end up just dumping a shortcut for run, cmd and mmc on the desktop and I can start from there!

 

ha ha I'm exactly the same when I'm doing the practicals from my book. I'm not entirely sold on the charms and whole "tablet" feel of it. I do like that it searches as soon as I type but I remember thinking, if I type appwiz.cpl or ncpa.cpl here and it doesn't know what I'm talking about, I'm out ha ha Thankfully it did and the shortcuts I'd memorised still work.... thank flip! I think thats half the issue with me, I want to update, get onboard with change, but don't make me feel like all the stuff I've memorised was a waste man cos that's just going to make me mad! ha ha and no one likes me when I'm mad on account of those gamma rays etc ;)

 

Sometimes the fecking charm bar (??) when I'm accessing the server remotely does not load - think if anyone is standing in front of the server at the remote site watching what I'm doing must think its my first day using a computer!

and I..... passed! Just about like, didn't smash it as hoped but a pass is a pass I will go into more detail later but right now I feel totally drained. I have a few comments but think I'd be pushing my luck with the NDA
