    Wizard,

Sorry to hear about the lay-off. I hate to see anyone lose their job, but at the same time, I have trouble calling 4 hours a day a job. That's more something you do part-time while you're looking for a job.

Leehaa said "everything that happens tends to happen for a reason", and I agree.

I really don't want to get too intense here, but these folks are trying to help. Show a little appreciation. And in the meantime maybe you can think of this as an opportunity to find a better job.

    Good Luck

Sorry to hear that Wiz, the first CV did look a little casual but looks much better now.

Good luck with the job hunt

If you have time to reply to my message mate, you have more then enough time for a quick "Thanks mate".

I'll leave it there as I don't want this to ruin the thread etc..

    Sorry for the double post.

I am now looking for 1st Line Jobs, but they all need at least 6 - 12 months experience. Even though I do have limited experience it wasn't really in a "professional" capacity, i.e. working on a busy help desk.

This was only on a part time basis and never really took it completely seriously until now.

I was basically providing support at a local depot with deploying new thin client terminals and also solving problems with the phone system and assigning people new phone numbers and installing new phones.

Even though the local managers recognised my part time IT role, the official bods did not so never really knew about my part time role.

So now it is basically getting frustrating as it is not full time experience I have.

So any tips on how to proceed?

Either look for jobs that don't require experience, or continue to use your "unrecognized" experience to try to get one of those jobs that require experience. There's really no magic formula to it.

Getting your A+ will give you a small advantage over others who don't have experience, so I'd recommend that you grab it as soon as you can. However, always remember that experience trumps certifications. If you're applying for jobs that require 6-12 months of experience, and someone applies who has those qualifications, then they'll get the job almost every time over someone who doesn't have experience.

I might have a nibble of a contract from an agency, just hope I haven't blown it as the agency left a message on my mobile yesterday and I only got it today.

Got the details on the job.

It's going to be covering the midlands installing ethernet switches into retail stores and doing basic ping tests.

It's for 6 - 8 weeks, starting last week in January and 1st week in February.

Just got to get my forms of ID sorted and then they'll send my CV over for consideration.

    So fingers crossed :D

Wizard --> I think you CV is a bit too descriptive. I remember a couple of months ago I had a similar CV and I wasn't getting any calls from agencies at all. But one nice lady from the agency phoned me and said that she changed my CV a bit (not the content just the focus) and sent it to the employer. I asked her to send me the new CV and when I put it on job websites, the response was much greater. Basically what agencies want are just keywords (Windows XP, Office 2003, etc.). You can also put your daily tasks (creating new accounts, back-up, etc.).

Less is more. You've got 15 seconds to capture their attention... focus your resume and grab their attention with keywords... not big, long, descriptive lists of stuff. If you do, they won't read it.

    Rep given. :)
