Hi all, not been on here for way too long!

OK, i have had a rocky road with my career in IT. I came from a background of Social care(mostly adults with learning disabilities) and decided after nearly 8 years home pc experience by 2006 to do some training and get into the IT industry. I did the Cerco course in May that year after seeing and hearing all sorts of things like "we will get you your first job" etc..... anyhow, i paid my money and was let down B A D L Y , none the less it did not put me off and i managed to get a support job for AOL a few months after doing the course.

Not long after that, i found out that a major computer manufacturer were recruiting in Glasgow, i applied and low and behold i got the offer as a tech!!!!! "YAY, GO ME!!!!" i thought..... well that was over 2 years ago, i worked hard and was cherry picked for a more specialised role(i cant go into that as it could identify me), but i have been made aware that i am to be made redundant come June!!!

I am looking for some leads to my next post......i have VAST experience in all the mainstream systems and would like to get my hands on now, rather than just answering the phone all day, could anybody shed some light on any companies who are recruiting in the near future? I know its a big ask, however if you dont ask, you dont get.

    Any help/assistance would be great,

    appreciated,

    Sparky1888

Hi Sparky, when you say VAST experience in mainstream systems what kind of stuff are you talking about mate? Sever 2003? Cisco Routers? Mainframes?

Only reason I ask is, that would determine who's best to apply to work for. I like your attitude, you don't ask you don't get is one of my moto's too :biggrin

Try looking on www.jobserve.co.uk and www.cwjobs.co.uk

I find these are the best for IT jobs. Good luck

No probs mate, its just that we get every type of expert on here from programmers to Cisco experts. Its a vary wide field as you know so advice for one thing might not be relevant for something else.

Have a look at this and see if its what your after http://www.jobserve.co.uk/W47F57DE2E2EA663C.jsjob

Hi mate, I'm also from Glasgow and have just managed to secure a new job today (I've been looking for a move since the end of January)

It is a tough market at the moment as I'm sure you know, the only thing you can really do is actively monitor jobserve, S1jobs etc send out CV's to anyone you can think of, any old contacts you have call them up etc

I'm pretty sure I know the company you're talking about, and they would look good on your CV - keep hunting and keep the head up and you will get something. Good Luck

Seeing as you mention you work in Glasgow, sounds to me like the company you work for ends in L ;)

I take it you will have undergone full manufacturer training?? That would look good on your CV?

Seeing as you will have good experience with laptops and pc's, I would suggest you look for desktop support roles? Have you tried your local council/nhs websites for IT vacancies?

As mentioned, I would just keep looking at S1jobs, CWjobs, totaljobs, hays and jobcentreplus sites weekly. There are not alot of roles out there right now, but keep looking!

I have to agree. Since they moved the call centre from India to Glasgow, the service has improved 110%. All the guys I have spoken to have been very very helpful! :thumbleft
