Weird, I saw the same thing on a network (not one of mine) the other day and the domain part of the logon prompt was greyed out and the @domain.com was on the username. First time I had seen that before.

Have you tried resetting the Group Policy objects to default?

Ok, this is the problem that you were trying to explain?

We've had that a couple of times in the past and it's a reg key that you have to change/delete. I'll try to dig it out and post it here.

I think that it's this reg key:

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon registry subkey and check if NoDomainUI entry exist. If yes, delete it or set it to 0

Reboot the machine and try again. This should enable the domain box again.

Don't know, I put it down to spyware. The PC's that were affect were full of it. However as it hasn't reoccured, I've had no need to search for the "why".

Have you tried adding another PC to the domain and see if it has the same problem?

I only have another server added to the domain I have created a few user accounts on the server and have been logging them directly on to the server but have given them the extra permissions they need to logon to a server.
