Ok I've only heard of this product by name. Never used it but my boss has and he says that it is OK but not in a work environment.

Anyway the reason for this post is to say that M$ are suing Lindows and they are having to change their name to Linspire.

So what I hear you cry. Well you can get it for free (that's free).

    Check this out

Big down load though over 600mb, just registered and when I get the chance I shall have a bash at it.

I read this the other week, this has been going on for months with MS and Lindows. It does however look from the screenshots be a nice distro with plenty of features. Keep us posted AJ on its use.

I haven't had a lot of sleep over the weekend so I don't feel like guessing what the one word code is. Anybody have the answer? If you don't want to post it openly, just PM me. Thx.

I'd be interested to see how to works in a real environment too, so keep us posted as to how it goes, what its like etc.

    Cheers! :)

I believe Evesham have already been shipping PCs with Lindows pre-installed. Seemed to go down well (mind you, so did SS Titanic !)

Just read this again and realised its a free offer if you download it using bit torrent. Cool, looks like the PC will be on over night then.

personaly im not a real fan of Lindows, seems pretty easy to use but cuts out alot of the power that makes *nix so attractive, looks pretty though :)

I successfully ordered it last night but now, how do I download it. I wasn't taken to a downloads page. I visited the sight and signed in this morning but there's no indication on the site that I have a sale pending. I did receive my receipt via e-mail, though.

Once you've logged into the site, under the My Linspire tab click >My Products > CD Downloads then >Download immediately using Bit-Torrent.

As it says you will need Bit-Torrent to download the file but there is a link with info on how to use it

Ok, I did as you described...went to my products and downloaded using bit-torent. There was something about having to download BitTorrent by clicking a link so I did that, too. Double clicked on the Linspire download, box opened up. Some red letters indicating an error, but I have something called "linspire-full-4.5.393.iso" in one of my folders. I assume from here that I can create a CD with the OS on it.

If you now have the ISO image file downloaded then yes that needs to be burnt to CD.

I use Nero and there is an option to burn to CD from an image file, so all I do is select that and choose the ISO file and off it goes. I'm sure most good burning software will have a similar feature

Didn't work. Contains 0 bytes. The CD burning software opens but doesn't find a valid file.

You must not have downloaded the full ISO. It was over 9 hours for my download as I wasnt getting a very good transfer rate. If you have bit torrent installed then when you follow the links as discribed above then you should see a window like this so you know the download is in progress.

Yow! Seventeen hours. I wouldn't dare tie up my phone line at home that long. That's why I wanted to do the download here at work to minimize the time. I e-mailed their tech support. Obviously, something is awry.

Your not downloading it Linspires servers, bit torrent is a peer to peer type downloading method.

    See here http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/introduction.html

You'll be donwloading form others while others are downloading it from you at the same time.

How did you get on with the download Trip. I just installed in on my old laptop and I'm posting this through Linspires Internet suite 1.5

I must admit that its quite a simple OS to navigate oh and pretty : :)

Too busy to deal with it right now. Their tech support suggested I try to download it again (as if I hadn't already). I'll worry about it in a few days.
