Licensing regarding SCCM 2007

I would like to know something from a licensing perspective. If I have 400 workstations in my company and I plan to buy SCCM 2007 would I need to purchase 400 CALs for SCCM 2007? At one point we will be managing them all with SCCM, things like imaging, software deployments, etc...

Yes you do, also worth noting is that there are two different levels of licensing, you have Server and Workstation, server licensing is more expensive.

Speak to your LAR or VAR (Large Account Reseller or Value Added Reseller) who should be able to offer you more information.

Oh and if you are buying the SCCM product as well, my advice would be to by the SKU that includes SQL and co-host it on the same box (it's cheaper that way).

 

Thanks dude! Didn't know that, if you don't mind me asking what is the SKU exactly? I am not exactly familiar on the licensing lingo...

 

Actually for the testing environment, I setup SCCM 2007 R2 with SQL server 2005 SP3 and it works like a charm, no issues what so ever..

 

You can purchase SCCM Server under two different SKU's (Stock Keeping Unit), one with the SQL license, one without the SQL license.
