When you guys leave a company do you guys get any gifts or anything maybe a card?

Even in a company our size they have a whip-round. The amount gained varies on how much you pissed people off. It's an eye-opener to how well/how little you are thought of.

Maybe a round of drinks from my ex-colleagues?

But one company gave me some nice gifts including a very expensive IT related book. That was a great company and I indeed felt a little sad to leave in order to take up another job.

 

I thought you have to shout them drinks or lunch.

 

Over my career its been variable, in one small repair shop I worked at many years ago I didn't get anything (which was the norm for that company) not even a cheery wave goodbye. The last company I left however I got a ton of star trek related items and a 1st edition "so long and thanks for all the fish" (so I guess I did ok out of that one).

 

Nah - the company normally sorts you out for lunch don't they? And your colleagues buy you drinks.

One of the guys that left here (to go around the world, and then get married) ... we had him telling myself and the sales manager that we were the best he's worked with "and I'm not just saying that" He was quite legless. On the same night we had our receptionist tell him that she was madly in love with him.

Still keep in touch with him, and we go out to see concerts and comedy quite regularly, even 4 years on.

 

im actually taking out 4 of my mates to a restaurant, they were cool people, also normally when someone in my company leaves there is suppose to be a team lunch,

I am not too sure if they forgot about mine I leave in another weeks time,

should I be ashamed.

 

It depends on what the norm is for that company.

I have left places with not even a good bye, I have left other places with a couple of hundred pounds worth of gifts (I actually hold the record for the most amount of money received and signatures on a leaving card (A4 card with 3 extra sheets of paper with comments attached) from a major bank in Luxembourg).

If I am honest with you I go around believing I won't get anything, that way if I don't I am not upset and if I do get something it's a bonus (nothing worse than leaving a company full of traders whose bonuses were in excess of 6 figures and getting nothing from them).

 

Or they are amalgamating it into one?

 

When i left my shop job to move into a IT job i was given a card, 2x bottles of Jack Daniels and 2x boxes of chocolates. Really wasnt expecting it and was so surprised when i got given all that on my last day

 

What are you expecting?. Provided I got paid at the end of the month that'll do me.

 

As long as I get paid at the end of each month, I am not so bothered about leaving presents / drinks / meals etc, any of them are a bonus to me.

 

100% Correct, you are there to do a job, once you get paid at the end of the month the slate is wiped clean, no one owes anyone anything. Once I hand in my notice when the day comes it's get out of dodge time.

 

From my experience, its what others have said.. Sometimes you get a going away dinner, sometimes you get gifts, it depends on the company, your tenure, the people, etc...

As others have said, depends on the place, the people, how you are viewed and no one should really expect to get anything.........


However once got Given a Gamecube as a leaving present as the guys knew I love my retro consoles............which I thought was ace.

The wife hated it

 

I usually get escorted to the door by a security guard for free...
